I painted this contemporary portrait of my maternal grandmother as a way of honoring her and all she sacrificed to ensure our family's advancement. I chose to use vibrant reds because they invoke a sense of loyalty, protection and warmth in me- qualities I believe best encapsulate who she was. I delicately adorned her face with gold lace revealing a single eye, while the rest of her remains in a silhouette haze. This painting represents the love and gratitude I will always have for my grandmother - a woman who put her dreams to the side for us and will forever remain in our hearts.
