The Power of Personal & Global Histories in Art

9 x 12, Mixed Media, La Señora Mercedes, (The Lady Mercedes)

I find myself constantly drawn to the power of personal and global histories. There is something incredibly powerful about the way that history shapes our identities and influences who we become as individuals. The collective history of humanity is equally fascinating, as it provides a window into the triumphs and struggles that have shaped our world. In this blog post, I want to explore why personal and global histories are so important to me as an artist, and how I incorporate them into my artwork.

I find personal and global histories so compelling because they have the power to connect us as human beings. No matter where we come from, or what our experiences have been, we all share a common history that is part of the fabric of our collective identity. Whether it's exploring the nuances of our own family histories or delving into the broader context of world events, understanding our past is essential to creating a sense of connection with others.

Personal and global histories are a central theme in much of my work. The reason I began painting is because I believe that art has the power to tell stories in a way that is incredibly powerful and moving. Whether I'm working with paint, sculpture, or any other medium, I always try to incorporate historical elements and personal memories into my pieces in hopes to create a deeper connection with viewers while evoking a sense of nostalgia, or longing, that taps into our shared experiences.

I believe that exploring my personal and global history is imperative to creating a sense of direction in my life. By taking the time to reflect on the events that have shaped me, I can begin to understand my own story and find a purpose greater than myself. I am constantly in search for the inspiration, motivation, or simply a deeper understanding of humanity that history has so much to offer.

One must ask, 'why is art such a powerful medium for exploring these histories?' I am convinced that it allows us to access a deeper part of ourselves that often goes unrecognized in our day-to-day lives. It allows us to become in touch with relevant generational emotions and experiences that are often suppressed or unattainable. This type of exploration has the ability to be incredibly cathartic and healing for both artists and viewers.

In conclusion, personal and global histories are an essential component to my art-making process and creating a sense of connection, meaning, and purpose. I am endlessly fascinated by these themes and strive to incorporate them into my work in meaningful ways. By exploring our shared past, I aim to create a sense of connection and empathy that transcends through mere words or images. I hope that my artwork can inspire others to explore their own histories and find deeper meaning in their lives.
